London’s “Evening Standard” newspaper published an interview with Beatle John Lennon, in which he remarked:
‘Christianity will… vanish and shrink… We’re more popular than Jesus Christ right now.’
The quote touched off a storm of international protest, resulting in burnings and boycotts of the Beatles’ records.
Full quote:-
“Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn’t argue with that; I’m right and I will be proved right. We’re more popular than Jesus now; I don’t know which will go first – rock and roll or Christianity”

You have stimulated an age old conversation on the popularity vs the famousness of Jesus Christ vs the popularity and famousness of the Beatles in the late ’60′s, here at home.
Of course I didn’t become interested in any music until I became a teen, later on…, LOL!
In the sixties, I remember saying in class, that the statement was probably the truth. In 2009, with the advent of the internet, My son said it wasn’t and I have to agree with him. The Beatles never got to the communist countries and therefore missed a lot of the earths population, including most of the 3rd world countries. Even in the western world, the Beatles were not popular with entire generational groups, even though they had been heard and were well known.
I feel so deflated
Hi,
This is an old quotation.
Where is John Lennon now?
Shot by a sick person who said that he only killed John to become well-known.
Jesus is the same yesterday today and to morrow.
Joh did not deserve it to be killed.
Jesus gave his life.
Through Him I live
